Thank you for the excellent read 💡 ! Would love to understand better the differences between GPUs and TPUs, I don't know if such comparison is in scope of future articles :). Looking forward to part 2!

Thank you so much and glad you enjoyed. Hopefully some of the differences will become a little clearer after part 2. In fact I'll try to make sure to draw out some of the differences in that post.

In 2013 Google would have been working with LSI Corp, acquired by Avago in 2014 and founding the custom design division which is the core of their AI success today. The acquisition of Broadcom by Avago in 2015 would bring in the network switch and SOC expertise., retaining the Broadcom name. Together these form the broad chip design and product capabilities of the current Broadcom.

Google was long silent about who their partners were so by the time it became known, the partner was Broadcom. But the logical original partner would have been LSI Corp.

Hi! You're absolutely right. Thanks for much for pointing that out. I'll add a correction / note.

I was not correcting so much as hoping to add insight why Broadcom partners in this kind of business. LSI Corp has been very successful as a quiet business unit.

The article states that Nvidia cards in 2013 were obvious choice and in addition they were available immediately (which implies there was an oversupply of them at the time.) What was the situation with ATI/AMD at that time?
