Nice read! Is the only reason AMD didn't take the cake even when AlexNet initially ran on Radeon cards AMD's financial troubles at the time? Or did they not see the potential in the AlexNet demo to further pursue that path?
Thanks Vikram. I have to admit that I'm not clear exactly what happened at AMD over this period. I believe they were first choice for bitcoin mining for a while and won some of the biggest supercomputer projects so didn't lose out completely on GPGPU computing. Maybe a topic for a future post!
