Lagado is a damn fine representation of the state of openAI. They spend so much in cool ‘Engine’ research and just running it, they are still in abject poverty as a company. Losing money even on the $200 pro plan as Altman himself tweeted. Great read.

Let us also not forget the House of Wisdom (Bayt al-Hikma) in Baghdad, from the 8th to 13th centuries where real inventions resembling modern computing devices like Al Jazari's automata among others were documented by Al Jazari. While the Great Library of Baghdad perished copies of those manuscripts were taken elsewhere. I was recently reminded of this work while visiting the incredible Museum of the History of Science and Technology in Islam in Istanbul.
